My child says that they have NO homework? What should my child be doing to reinforce concepts covered in class?
Your child has probably completed their work within the class time.
However, they are responsible for completing their Home Reading Club requirements on a daily basis and recording what they have read.
Also, students should be reviewing their notes from subjects like Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Math etc.
Taking their notebooks home to read over material covered in class will help reinforce new concepts covered in class.
How can I find out my child's daily assignments?
Each student has a planner that they use to keep track of their daily assignments as well as important dates and upcoming projects or tests. We review the homework board together at the end of each day, but it is your child's responsibility to record that information in their planner.
What if my child does not understand their homework and as a parent/guardian I am unable to support their learning?
Please do not spend hours fretting about ANY misunderstood work. Assignments and homework that goes home is NOT a new concept that has not been taught in class.
Please write a note in your child's planner and I will help your child the next day.
What if my child is sick and has missed classroom lessons that cannot be completed at home?
Your child needs to demonstrate responsibility and ask me what they need to do in order to get caught up on their work.
There will be an "Extras Box" with handouts they have missed.
Your child can also ask a member in their group what they missed.
If they miss a quiz/test or Project deadline, then they need to speak to me and I will try to get them caught up during class time.
Please note...not all missed lessons are "worksheets". Quite often we have class discussions, guided reading/conferences and guided writing lessons that are modelled by the teacher.
What if I have a question or concern about my child and their learning or social/emotional issues on the playground etc?
Please don't hesitate to contact me at school with ANY concerns or questions you may have.
You may write a note in your child's planner, email me at [email protected] or call me at (604) 664-8870.
We can arrange a time to sit down and discuss the issue in detail without distractions rather than having a rushed chat during drop-off and pick-up times.
It is my child's birthday. May I send something to school?
If you would like to help your child celebrate with their peers, please send something that is easy to hand out and individually portioned, such as a cupcake. Whole cakes or ice cream cakes will be sent home. Please remember, we are a nut free classroom.
